The men were arrested Thursday, Dec. 6, after Saks personnel became suspicious when the two men, Franklin Freiber Romero, 25 of Reading, Pennsylvania, and Francisco Diaz-Denoly, 23, of the Bronx, attempted to purchase $1,890 worth of goods at the store in Greenwich, said Greenwich Police.
When asked for identification, Diaz-Denoly showed a Pennsylvania driver's license in the name of Daniel Cornyn, police said.
The two men then quickly left the store instead of making the purchase and the left the area in a white BMW.
Police were able to track down the vehicle and during the stop discovered the driver's license was counterfeit. They also found items that had been purchased fraudulently from Bloomingdale's in White Plains, police said.
Romero was charged with identity theft, conspiracy to commit ID theft, conspiracy to commit larceny, criminal attempt at larceny and larceny by possession.
Diaz-Denoly was charged with identity theft, conspiracy to commit ID theft, conspiracy to commit larceny, criminal attempt to commit larceny, larceny, forgery and criminal impersonation.
Both are being held on $5,000 bond.
